1. How many credits is the program?
The program is 30 credit hours for both specializations. Students will take a core of 21 credit hours with an additional 9 credit hours based on their specialization of choice.
2. What is the profile of a student in the planning and leadership specialization?
Those who are middle to senior level in their CJ/law enforcement careers will do well in this specialization. For example, if you are a Sergeant or Captain and are looking to become a Chief. This person typically has a minimum of 2-5 years of progressive CJ work experience.
3. What is the profile of a student in the homeland security and emergency management specialization?
Students can have a background as a first responder or front-line worker in emergency management. Many students will be career changers looking to move into the field of Homeland Security.
4. Are there any prerequisites?
No there are no course requirements per se. The program will demand that incoming students have a basic understanding of Criminal Justice theory. The faculty Admissions Committee will review each applicant’s background thoroughly.
5. Is there an exam required for admission?
No. An exam is not required for admission.
6. What makes this program unique?
The program focuses on leadership in the CJ field, homeland security, and emergency management. The core classes bring aspects of leadership to the forefront when discussing topics like technology challenges in the field, ethical leadership, public sector accounting, and decision-making.
